Sunnyside Productions' Andrea Miller has won a prestigious award from StoryFutures, Industrial Light and Magic, Epic Games and Future Screens Northern Ireland to produce the short factual drama 'The Surreal Life' using virtual production techniques.

The Surreal Life 

You can see how Sunnyside Productions takes the true story of an historic meeting and transform it into a world of the surreal and the subconscious. Although the action has a comic twist, visually the film 'The Surreal Life' is striking and uncanny, exploring the iconography of both the surrealist movement and the power of dreams.

A note about the Virtual Production technique

This is a technique referred to as 'in camera special effects' (ICFX) which is best known for its use in 'The Mandalorian' and 'Star Wars'.

This cutting edge filming technique is where photorealist landscapes are created in 3 dimensions. Using Epic Games' Unreal Engine the images are played through a Volume (a giant LED wall) and the studio camera uses a tracking system to capture actors and the 3D landscape in real time and in perfect perspective.
